Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Gedächtniskirche)

This church built 1891-95 by Franz Schwechten in the Neo-romanesque style was severally damaged during an air-raid in 1943. The Berliners expressed the wish to behold their "hollow tooth", despite history. The new building by Emil Eiermann (1961) integrates the ruin in a complex comprising an octagonal church, a vestry, and a 63m high

bell tower. The wonderful and meditative blue and red light of the inside is totally invisible when looking at the concrete honeycomb structure of the exterior.

The bell tolls every hour and plays a song by Prince Louis Ferdinand.
